Tip!: Use Firefox. Trust me - it's a far better experience... Click here to try it out! Sign in as demo, demo. Email helixgl@prism9.com for more information. Note: the live demo edition lags behind the screenshots. I use this for my business, and don't merge the updates all the time. Automatic merging is coming though. It'll be done via xchange.prism9.com, and any installed copy of HelixGL can update itself. |
About HelixGL HelixGL started out as a theoretical project for a PHP Code Generator I wrote called CodeMonkey. CodeMonkey became unwieldy, and was shelved, and the core engine re-written, and called XCode. (Sorry Apple, I've had it for years. Luckily we're in very different industry segments.) XCode RPS (Rapid Prototyping System) takes the Database Schema, and treats it as the DNA, or the design of the appplication. Interfaces are created within seconds, and are then massaged for better flow of information, usability, and nice english terms are added. Suddenly, lots of systems were possible. I decided to think ahead, and work out common components different systems shared, and termed them as Design Segments - essentially strings of DNA in biological terms. As many systems could share the same DNA, the term Helix was born. It's development soon became a hobby. As new features were so easy to add, it grew and grew. Development was fuelled by the fact that it contains it's own development environment - right inside the app itself. With unlimited undo, and date stamped version control on source files, developers can create new modules, and make them available to users once they're complete. Now, it's being used in my consultancy company, it does all the BAS statements for the Tax Office, and has been used in quite a few small evaluation projects, with brilliant results. I'm planning to release an installer that'll package Apache, PHP, and FirebirdSQL in one unit, so that people can try their own copies on their machine. Test-drives are always available here, so you can try it at any time. |
